Heavenly Creatures (1994) is a film directed by Peter Jackson, based on the true story of the Parker-Hulme murder in Christchurch, New Zealand. The film was a critical success and was nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. It also featured the first film appearance of actress Kate Winslet.
Some of the film was shot on location at Christchurch Girls' High School.
Two young girls become close friends and become increasingly involved in a world of fantasy. The girls continue seeing each other after their families forbid it, and eventually plot the murder of the mother of one of the girls. After the film was released, it came to light that historical mystery writer Anne Perry was Juliet Hulme, one of the killers.
