Pauline Yvonne Parker (born May 26, 1938 in Christchurch , New Zealand ) is a New Zealand riding instructor, who became known through the murder of her mother Honora Parker and her later cinematic processing. She killed her mother along with her friend Juliet Hulme (known as Anne Perry ) on June 22, 1954 . The reason for the murder was that Juliet was supposed to emigrate to South Africa with her father , but that Pauline was forbidden by her mother to accompany her friend there.

Life

Pauline Parker was born the third of four children to Herbert Detlev Rieper (1894–1981) and Honora Mary Parker (1909–1954). Her older brother died shortly after giving birth in 1936. In 1937 the sister Wendy Patricia was born. In 1949 the fourth child was born, Rosemary, who was born with Down syndrome and grew up in a home. Herbert Rieper came from Tasmania , but had German roots. Honora Parker was a native of England who emigrated to New Zealand with her mother in 1927.

During the trial it was revealed that her parents never married, which is why Parker was convicted as Pauline Parker , her mother's maiden name. In 1915, when he was stationed as a soldier in Cairo, his father married the 13-year-old Englishwoman Louise McArthur and had two children with her. He met Honora Parker around 1928 and left his family. However, his marriage never ended in divorce.

After completing her sentence in 1959, Parker spent some time under close surveillance by the New Zealand authorities. After she was finally given permission to emigrate to England, she settled in the small town of Hoo near Strood, Kent under the name Hilary Nathan and opened a riding school.

Today Pauline Parker is a devout Catholic and says she regrets the murder deeply.

The murder

On June 22, 1954, the two girls murdered Honora Parker with a brick tucked into a stocking. They initially stated that Honora had fallen, but this was quickly refuted by the 45 wounds on the mother's head.

Both girls were found guilty in Christchurch court. However, since they were under the death penalty , they served a five-year prison term and were then released on condition that they never see each other again.

Cinematic processing

The story of the two girls was filmed in 1994 by Peter Jackson under the name Heavenly Creatures . Pauline was played by Melanie Lynskey , Juliet by Kate Winslet .
