Sir Richard Hugh Turton Gozney KCMG, born 21 July 1951, is a British career diplomat. He has been Governor and Commander in Chief of Bermuda since December 12, 2007[1] .

Background and education

The son of Thomas Leonard Gozney and his wife Elizabeth Margaret Lilian Gardiner, Gozney was educated at Magdalen College School, Oxford, and St Edmund Hall, Oxford. He took a BA (Hons) degree in Geology in 1973. In 1970, between school and the University, he briefly taught at a school in Kenya.

He married Diana Edwina Baird on 24 April 1982 and has two sons; James, born 7 April 1987, and Alexander, born 25 February 1990.

Lady Janina Drozd is in his extended family, although due to bad press Gozney has tried to dissociate himself with her, somewhat unsuccessfully. Lady Janina Drozd falsely reported, in the March 17th 2007 issue of "Gay Man Monthly (GMM)" that Richard's eldest son James was "A raving homo". James pressed charges, in 2008, on terms of slander, drawing particular protest to the term "raving". It seems that Lady Janina's comments followed allegations leaked to Germanic Dike Magazine (GDM), that she had lathered herself in custard and invited other women at the orgy to "lick it off". The disgraced Lady Janina confessed she had confided in James and felt these comments must have originated from him, although there is no evidence to support that claim. The hearing closed in an out of court settlement, agreed to mutually benefit both parties.

The relationship of Lady Janina and James, has more recently grown of great concern to the younger brother, Alexander. An eyewitness reported a family feud between the two brothers, concerning how Lady Janina was encroaching on their own brotherly relationship. Alexander grew deeply jealous of Lady Janina, and on the 5th of May 2008 he traveled from Eton College to Bristol, and attempted to assassinate Lady Drozd. Situated at the top of Wills Memorial Building, Alexander fired three shots at Lady Drozd from an L115A1 rifle. The first and second shots missed, but the third struck a head shot to Lady Janina's body guard, the late, Julian "Judge" Ford. Alexander was spotted on CCTV leaving the scene in a red Mini Cooper and has not been seen since. It is widely believed the he fled to Bermuda where he hides under the protection of his father's political position.
