Russell Joseph Howard (March 23, 1980 - March 22, 2008 in Bristol) is an English comedian famed for his improvisational skills, which have led him to win several awards, notably making Zoo magazine's top 10 list of "Britain's Funniest Comics 2005" at number 2 and winning "Best Compère" at the 2006 Chortle Awards. He was also nominated for an if.comeddie award in 2006 for his Edinburgh show, Wandering.[1] He resides in Bristol and attended Perins Community School, New Alresford until 1996.

Personal Life

He was born and raised in Bristol. He has mentioned several times that his family had many dogs as he was growing up. He has a sister, named Kerry, and a brother, named Daniel. Russell also has a girlfriend named Cerys.

TV and Radio

In 2004 he was commissioned by BBC Radio One to write and perform on the comedy series, The Milk Run.

He is a regular on British topical panel game Mock the Week, Out to Lunch (co-hosting with fellow comedian Rob Deering), and Never Mind the Buzzcocks (Series 18, Episode 2 and Series 20, Episode 4). [2] He has also made brief appearances on Would I Lie To You?

On BBC Radio 4, he has appeared on the shows Banter, hosted by Andrew Collins, and Political Animal, on which he ended his routine by giving John Oliver a piggy-back ride which resulted in one "hurty-elbow", although this did not make it to the broadcast.

Several comedians picked as the best comedy talent from the 2005 Edinburgh Fringe Festival recorded 10–15-minute spots for the 'Edinburgh and Beyond show' which was aired on Paramount Comedy 1 in the autumn of 2006. The show was filmed at The Bloomsbury Theatre.

Since November 2006, Russell has been hosting his own radio show on BBC 6 Music with fellow comedian Jon Richardson in a Sunday morning slot previously hosted by Russell Brand. [3]
