Hannibal–LaGrange College is a private, Christian college located in Hannibal, Missouri. The college is affiliated with the Missouri Baptist Convention, which is part of the Southern Baptist Convention. Enrollment is approximately 1,150 students as of 2007.[1]
Hannibal-LaGrange is a four-year liberal arts college fully accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Founded in 1858 in LaGrange, Missouri, the campus moved downriver to Hannibal in 1928. On February 12, 1995, Dr. Woodrow Burt was elected the 16th president of the college. Among the former presidents is the Southern Baptist leader Dr. Larry Lewis, a graduate of Luther Rice Seminary.
The College offers more than 30 majors.
Mission statement
With the motto "Knowledge for Service," the mission of Hannibal–LaGrange College is to provide an excellent liberal arts education in a distinctively Christian environment, thus preparing students for both personal and career effectiveness.
Athletics
HLG is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Division I. HLG competes in nine men's sports, including soccer, basketball, baseball, cross country, track and field, wrestling, volleyball, swimming, and golf, and 9 women's sports, including soccer, softball, basketball, volleyball, golf, swimming, track and field, cheerleading, and cross country.
Academics
Undergraduate: HLG offers undergraduate majors in many areas, including Art, Business, Christian studies, Accounting, Business Administration, Human Services, Psychology, Sociology, Computer Information Systems, Communication Arts, Criminal Justice, Education (Early Childhood, Elementary and Secondary), English, History, Music, Nursing, Recreation Management, Biology, Prechemistry, Prepharmacy, Theatre, and Liberal Arts Studies.
Graduate: HLG offers a Master of Science in Education
Online: Many online classes are offered each semester for both on-campus and online-only students. As of the 2009-2010 school year, undergraduate degrees in Nursing and Early Childhood Special Education were available through all-online coursework.
ADVANCE Degree Completion: HLG's ADVANCE Degree Completion program is designed for working adults with an associate's degree who desire to complete their bachelor's degree within 18 months. Several degree programs and locations are available.
