The Águeda is a left tributary of the Duero and about 133 km long. Its source is near the municipality of Navasfrías in the province of Salamanca . Initially, it runs in a north-easterly direction to the city of Ciudad Rodrigo . From there it flows further north through mostly uninhabited area and finally flows into the Duero at Barca d'Alva . The last 22 kilometers the Águeda forms the border between Portugal and Spain .
