Ángel Bracho

Ángel Bracho (born February 14, 1911 in Mexico City ; † February 1, 2005 there ) was a Mexican painter and graphic artist .

Life

Initially in evening classes, he studied drawing and painting from 1929 at Academia de San Carlos of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). In 1934 he founded the Liga de Escritores y Artistas Revolucionarios (League of Revolutionary Writers and Artists, LEAR) with other artists . Between 1936 and 1939 he worked as an art teacher and traveled to different parts of Mexico, including Oaxaca , Sinaloa , Nayarit and Baja California .

In 1937, together with Alberto Beltrán , Leopoldo Méndez , Raúl Anguiano and other artists, he founded the Taller de Gráfica Popular (workshop of folk graphic artists , TGP). From 1952 to 1953 he was director and from 1961 to 1963 president of this association. His works have been exhibited internationally. In 1960 Bracho received the gold medal at the Buenos Aires Biennale . In 1979 his life's work was honored with an exhibition in Michoacán .
