Áron Márton
Áron Márton (born August 28, 1896 in Sândominic , Romania , † September 29, 1980 in Alba Iulia , Romania) was bishop of the diocese of Alba Iulia .
Life
Márton received on 6 July 1924, the sacrament of Holy Orders . Pope Pius XI called him on December 24, 1938 Bishop of Alba Iulia. He was ordained bishop on February 12, 1939, by the apostolic nuncio in Romania, Archbishop Andrea Cassulo ; Co- consecrators were Augustin Pacha , Bishop of Timișoara , and István Fiedler, Bishop of Oradea Mare .
From 1949 to 1955 he was imprisoned by the communist regime. From 1970 to 1980 he was chairman of the Romanian Bishops' Conference .
Aftermath
Márton was recognized Righteous Among the Nations on December 27, 1999 . His beatification process has started.
