The corn wreath is an element on many political symbols . It looks quite similar to the classic laurel wreath and olive branches .

The wreath of ears can usually be found on political symbols, plaques or logos . It usually stands symbolically for rich harvests and thus for farmers or agriculture . Its meaning can be compared to that of the sickle (see also hammer and sickle ).

During the communist period in Central and Eastern Europe , it was part of many flags and coats of arms of socialist states. From 1950 to 1990 a wreath (together with a hammer and compass ) also adorned the GDR's national coat of arms . In this context he stood for the collective peasantry .
