history

The first station was opened on November 1, 1879 on the Västra stambanan railway, which was completed in 1860 . When it opened, the station was named Elfsjö . On December 28, 1901, the Nynäsbanan to Nynäshamn railway was inaugurated, from which the trains also stopped at the station. In the years 1916 to 1917 the tracks for long-distance traffic and regional traffic were separated. In 1932 the station building and the pedestrian overpass were inaugurated. On January 1, 1967, the local transport company SL took over all rail traffic in the Stockholm area , which gave the station its present-day appearance in 1970. The station received a new track and now has four tracks on two platforms. In addition, two central through tracks and a western one for long-distance traffic run through the station.

The station is located in the southern Stockholm district of Älvsjö, in the immediate vicinity of the Stockholm Exhibition Center . The Magelungsvägen expressway runs below the station . It is possible to change to various bus routes.
