The Metro Station Ecole Militaire is a station on the line 8 of the Paris Métro .
location
The station is located on the border of the Quartier du Gros-Caillou with the Quartier de l'École Militaire in the 7th arrondissement of Paris . It is located along the Avenue de la Motte-Piquet northeast of the Place de l'École-Militaire.
Surname
The Place de l'École-Militaire gives it its name. This square is named after the nearby École Militaire , a military school opened in 1760 .
History and description
The station was built in an open excavation and was put into operation on July 13, 1913 with the opening of the first section of Line 8. This ran from Opéra to Beaugrenelle (since 1947: Charles Michels ).
In contrast to the elliptical cross-section, which is more common in Paris , the station has a horizontal metal ceiling. Longitudinal girders, which carry small vaults made of bricks, rest on iron support beams that are perpendicular to the direction of travel. It is 75 m long, 13.50 m wide and has 4 m wide side platforms on two main tracks.
In 2008 the station was renovated and the wall coverings from the 1960s were removed.
The two entrances are on either side of the avenue de la Motte-Piquet near the Place de l'École-Militaire. The north-west is marked by a candelabra designed by Adolphe Dervaux in the Art Deco style .
vehicles
Until 1975, Sprague-Thomson trains ran on Line 8 . In that year MF 67 trains came on the line, which were replaced from 1980 by the MF 77 series .
