Edouard Chassaignac

Pierre Charles Marie Édouard Chassaignac (born December 24, 1804 in Nantes , † August 26, 1879 in Versailles ), was a French doctor and professor of anatomy and surgery.

biography

Chassaignac studied medicine first in Nantes, then in Paris. He received his doctorate there in 1835 with a dissertation on femoral neck fractures . Two years later he became an associate professor and prosector of anatomy in the medical school . He then held various positions as a surgeon and was also vice president of the anatomical society. In 1857 Chassaignac became President of the Surgical Society and in 1868 a member of the Medical Academy.

Namesake

The symptoms of a subluxation of the radial head ( Chassaignac paralysis ) and a procedure for its reduction ( Chassaignac handle ) are named after Chassaignac . An instrument used in tracheotomy and a bloodless surgical method ( écrasement linéaire ) for tissue removal also bear his name.

The anterior cusp ( tuberculum anterius ), which is particularly strong on the transverse process of the 6th cervical vertebra and against which the nearby carotid artery can be pressed, is called the carotid tubercle [Chassaignac] .
