Édouard-Auguste Imer: River landscape

Édouard-Auguste Imer (born December 25, 1820 in Avignon , † June 13, 1881 in Haarlem ) was a French painter .

Imer was formed mainly through study trips across Europe, to Algeria and Egypt. In his early works he was somewhat overshadowed by Jules Dupré , and later he tried his hand at the style of Léon Belly . In 1850 he took part in the major exhibition of the Paris Salon and made his successful debut with his two works “Weg in der Provence” and “Landschaft vom Rhôneufer zu Avignon”.

He brought back full sketchbooks from his extensive study trips, the contents of which later became the basis of many of his pictures. Contemporary art critics praised them all, but gave some preference to the representations from France. At the World Exhibition in Paris in 1855 , Imer took part with his paintings "Rhone Bank" and "Pond of Soumabre".

During a study trip through Holland, Édouard Imer died on June 13, 1881 in Haarlem at the age of 60.
