Elisabeth Brasseur

Élisabeth Brasseur (* 1896 in Verdun , † 1972 in Versailles ) was a French choirmaster .

After taking lessons from her grandfather Ernest Grosjean , who was organist at Verdun Cathedral , Brasseur studied at the Conservatory of Versailles . She got a job as organist and cantor at the Church of Sainte Jeanne d'Arc and founded a women's choir there in 1920, which soon developed into a mixed choir and was named Chorale Élisabeth-Brasseur in 1943 .

The choir has performed hundreds of concerts and operas, sang world premieres of compositions by Arthur Honegger ( Cantate de Noël ), Florent Schmitt , Francis Poulencs , Darius Milhauds , André Jolivets , Olivier Messiaens , Claude Delvincourts , Jacques Charpentiers and Charles Brown, and performed regularly with Festival d'Aix-en-Provence with.

After Brasseur's death in 1972, Catherine Brilli took over the choir direction.
