Abd al-Aziz az-Zubi (born February 4, 1926 in Nazareth , British Mandate Palestine , † February 14, 1974 ; Arabic عبد العزيز الزعبي, DMG ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz az-Zuʿbī ; Hebrew עבד אל-עזיז א-זועבי; also al-Zubi ) was an Israeli-Arab politician who sat as a member of the Knesset for the Mapam and its successor party from 1965 until his death in 1974 . He was appointed Deputy Minister of Health of Israel on May 24, 1971 , making him the first non- Jewish member of the government.

Abd al-Aziz az-Zubi was born during the British Mandate in Nazareth, where he also attended middle school before going to Arab College in Jerusalem . For the mandate government he worked as an official in the tax administration. After Israel declared independence , he worked as an official in the Israel Lands Authority from 1948 to 1958 . In Nazareth he was also active in the union of government employees.

In 1956 he was involved in the formation of the Jewish Arab Association for Peace and Equal Rights and later one of the founders of the Jewish Arab Center for Peace at Givat Haviva . He joined the Mapam in 1958. In 1961 he became deputy mayor of the city of Nazareth, and in 1965 its mayor. He held this position until 1966. In the November 1965 Knesset election he was elected a member of parliament.

In the 1969 election he was re-elected to the list of the alliance of the Avoda and Mapam parties and on May 24, 1971, he was Deputy Minister of Health in the fifteenth government of Israel under Prime Minister Yitzchak Rabin . In the general election in 1973 , he retained his seat, but died less than a month after the newly elected Knesset for the first time was met. Its seat was taken over by Hawiw Schimoni .

Outside of politics, az-Zubi was involved in various publications. He was editor of the weekly newspaper al-Mersad and the monthly magazine al-Fajar as well as one of the co-editors of the monthly magazine New Outlook .

His family also includes Seif el-Din el-Zoubi , who was also a member of the Knesset and mayor of Nazareth, and Haneen Zoubi , a former member of the Knesset.
