Louis-Émile Adan , called Émile Adan (* 1839 in Paris ; † 1937 there ) was a French illustrator and painter.

Life

After his first artistic lessons in his family, he came to the École des Beaux-Arts at an early age . There he was u. a. Student of François-Édouard Picot and Alexandre Cabanel .

With the support of his teachers, Adan was able to take part in the annual exhibition of the Salon de Paris for the first time in 1863 . His works were well received by official art critics and Adan participated in these exhibitions until shortly before his death. Émile Adan died in Paris in 1937 and found his final resting place there.

reception

It took a few years until he found his own style and, in addition to oil painting , watercolors became a focus of his work. Over the years, he has also made a name for himself with the illustration of books.
