François-Édouard Picot
François-Édouard Picot (born October 17, 1786 in Paris ; † March 15, 1868 ibid) was a French history and portrait painter and lithographer .
Life
Picot was a student of François-André Vincent . He established his reputation in 1819 with the large painting Amor und Psyche , which Raffael and Fornarina followed in an evening landscape and The Death of Saphira (in the Church of St. Severin in Paris ). An Orestes sleeping in the arms of Elektra was bought for the gallery of the Palais du Luxembourg . He painted a Madonna for the Loreto Church in Paris. In the Louvre he created two allegories as a ceiling painting, depicting the relationship between Egypt and Greece and the fall of Herculaneum and Pompeii , in the apse of the Church of St. Vincent de Paul in Paris a colossal Christ with the prophets, of Byzantine statuary severity, however not without greatness. He has worked more through his teaching than through his paintings .
