Émile Berchmans (born November 8, 1867 in Liège , † November 5, 1947 in Brussels ) was a Belgian painter, illustrator and poster artist.

Émile Berchmans came from a family of artists. His uncle Henri Berchmans was a painter and art teacher, his father Émile-Édouard (1843–1914) was a decorative painter, and his brother Oscar (1869–1950) was a sculptor. He received his first education from his father. From 1882 he studied at the Académie royale des beaux-arts de Liège with Adrien De Witte .

In 1888 he exhibited for the first time at the Association pour l'Encouragement des Beaux-Arts (Association for the Promotion of Fine Arts).

In 1896, Emile Berchmans married Joséphine Pieper, heir to an arms factory that also manufactured bicycles.

Together with Auguste Donnay and Armand Rassenfosse , he designed posters for the Auguste Bénard publishing house. Together with Armand Rassenfosse he founded the magazine "Caprice Revue".

He worked for the Paris magazines “La Plume” and “La Revue illustrée”. He also illustrated books. He exhibited at L'Art Indépendant in Paris and at Libre Esthétique in Brussels.

In 1904 he became professor of historical composition at the Academy in Liège and its director from 1931 to 1934. In 1934 he settled in Brussels. He also created wall and ceiling paintings, u. a. in theaters in Liège and Verviers and in the dome of St. Michael's Church in Aachen .
