Émile Vuillermoz
Émile Vuillermoz , actually Émile-Jean-Joseph Vuillermoz (born May 23, 1878 in Lyon , Département Rhône ; † March 2, 1960 in Paris ) was a French film and music critic.
Life
After finishing school in his hometown, Vuillermoz learned the organ and piano while studying law and literature. He later went to Paris and became a student at the Conservatoire de Paris ; Among other things, he learned harmony with Antoine Taudou and composition with Gabriel Fauré .
Through his acquaintance with Ravel , he came into contact with the artists' association Les Apaches and also became a member there. In 1909 Vuillermoz founded the Société musicale indépendante and until 1911 he acted as publisher for the journal “Revue musicale” of the Société internationale de musique . He also wrote regularly for newspapers and magazines such as "L'Eclair", "L'Illustration", "Le Mercure", " Le Temps " and the like. a. Vuillermoz is considered France's first film critic. In addition to his purely journalistic work as a film and music critic or his books, a small compositional work was created over the years.
Through music he made the acquaintance of Ravel and became a member of the Les Apaches artist group .
Vuillermoz died a quarter of a year before his 82nd birthday in Paris and found his final resting place there.
