Map of the two atolls |
The Îles Deux Groupes (German: "Two-Group Islands") are a group of two atolls in the central Tuamotu Archipelago in the Pacific Ocean . The group includes the Ravahere and Morocau atolls , of which, however, only Morocau is inhabited. The Îles Deux Groupes administratively belong to the municipality of Hikueru in French Polynesia .
The two closely spaced atolls were discovered for Europe by Louis Antoine de Bougainville in 1768 . The name "two-group islands" comes from James Cook .
