Óscar Avilés

Óscar Guillermo Avilés Arcos (born March 24, 1924 in Callao , † April 5, 2014 in Lima ) was a Peruvian singer and guitarist, composer and arranger. It was dubbed “La Primera Guitarra del Perú” (First Guitar of Peru). He was the representative of the Música Criolla .

Óscar Avilés started his career in 1939 in the sibling duo La Limeñita y Ascoy. In 1942 he won the La Noche competition by Roberto Nieves with the ensemble Núñez, Arteaga & Avilés . He played with the Los Trovadores del Perú and Los Morochucos. He worked with Chabuca Granda, Jesús Vásquez, Eloísa Angulo, Panchito Jiménez, Los Hermanos Zañartu, Los Hermanos García, Cecilia Bracamonte, Zoila Zevallos, Los Ases del Perú, Los Hermanos Catter, Nicomedes Santa Cruz and Zambo Cavero, as well as the composer Augusto Polo Campos .

He received several awards and numerous gold records.
