Verden Ecological Center
The Ecological Center Verden eV is a self-administered project in Verden an der Aller . It is made up of various companies and institutions in the ecological and social environment. The focus of work is ecological building as well as educational and youth work . The association has existed since 1996 and is the owner of the building and site of the former barracks on Lindhooper Strasse , where it operates the 'Eco Center'.
History and activities
The origin of the eco center goes back to the concept of the project workshop . In addition to initiatives in Lüneburg and Bad Oldesloe , the eco-center emerged from the environment of environmental activists (partly organized in the BUNDjugend ). It was mainly founded by students. The core group included Sven Giegold and, as one of the few women, the geographer Dagmar Embshoff. The center was built from 1996 to 1999, and in 1997 the ecological housing cooperative AllerWohnen eG emerged from the group of active people . During the renovation of the barracks building, a solar system , a gray water system and a biological septic tank were installed. Attac Germany was also founded in the Verden eco center .
The North German Center for Sustainable Building GmbH (NZNB) has also been on the site since 2015 , with which Verden is to become the hub for sustainable building in northern Germany. Its construction was supported by the Lower Saxony Ministry of Economics with funds from the European Union with around four million euros. The Ecological Center Verden eV is the sole shareholder of the GmbH.
Basic democratic claim
The eco-center was founded against the background of realizing grassroots democratic decision-making structures. All tenants have the right to vote and make equal decisions on important issues. According to the statutes, decisions are made by consensus. In the event of a conflict that cannot be resolved, out-of-court arbitration will apply.
