Örebro IK ( Örebro Ishockeyklubb ) was a Swedish ice hockey club from Örebro . The club existed between 1972 and 1999 and played in the first Swedish ice hockey league for a few years.

history

Örebro IK emerged from Örebro SK ( Örebro Sportklubb ), which was founded in 1908 . In 1964, Örebro SK, which is represented in various sports, started an ice hockey department whose first men's team won Division II Södra A in its first season and was promoted to Division I Södra. In 1967 she was relegated to Division II. In 1972 the ice hockey department was outsourced and became an independent club under the name Örebro IK ( Örebro Ishockeyklubb ). After several relegations and promotions between the first and second division, the club got increasingly financial problems. In 1999 Örebro IK went bankrupt and was taken over by HC Örebro 90 , which was founded in 1990 , which took the name Örebro HK ( Örebro Hockeyklubb ) in 2005 and has been playing in the first-class Svenska Hockeyligan since 2013 .

Sporting development

In the 1973/74 season of the Swedish Division 1 - at that time still the highest ice hockey league - the club occupied the last place in the group south, but was able to hold the class in the subsequent relegation round. In the following season 1974/75 he was relegated. In the 1975/76 season of Division 1 - the first season of Division 1 as the second highest division - the team won Group East and qualified again for the first division, now the Elitserien , via the Kvalserien promotion round . With the 9th place in the 1976/77 season , the direct relegation followed. The ups and downs were repeated, because after the immediate resurgence, the team ended up in 10th place in the 1978/79 season again on a relegation place. Until the last season of the club in 1998/99, the team remained in the second division (Division 1, Group West).
