The Austrian Society for Research and Development in Education (ÖFEB) is the scientific association of Austrian educational researchers. As a non-partisan, supra-regional and non-profit association, it addresses everyone who conducts research, development and teaching in the educational sciences. It was founded in 2000 and is based in Linz. The ÖFEB is a member of the European Educational Research Association (EERA).

Goals and Membership

The goals of this scientific society are:

  • Promotion of educational research, development and teaching in Austria.
  • Further development of a humane and democratic education system through high-quality research and teaching
  • Discussion and collaboration between people working in educational research and development in Austria across various disciplines, research methodological approaches and institutions
  • Increasing the quantity and quality of educational research and development
  • Promotion of women
  • Promotion of young academics in the educational sciences
  • Promotion and cooperation between educational research, educational practice, educational administration and educational policy and maintenance of contacts with bodies of science policy and research funding
  • Representation of the interests of educational researchers in relation to educational policy, educational administration and research funding bodies
  • Dissemination of the results of educational research and raising the level of information in the public about the working methods and results of educational research
  • Stimulation of international exchange (statutes of the ÖFEB)

Ordinary members can become persons who contribute to the goals of society through educational research, development and teaching. There are also sponsors, associates and honorary members. The Austrian Society for Research and Development in Education currently has around 520 members.

Sections

So far, the ÖFEB has set up the following sections, which concern various sub-areas of educational research:

Organ of publication

The " Journal for Educational Research " (ZBF) is the scientific journal of the ÖFEB. It is currently being edited by Angelika Paseka ( University of Hamburg ), Stefan Brauckmann ( Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt ) and Georg Krammer ( University of Education in Styria ) on behalf of ÖFEB and has been published by Springer VS (Wiesbaden) since 2011.

Congresses

The last congress of the Austrian Society for Research and Development in Education took place from 17.-20. September 2019 under the title "Measuring? On the relationship between educational research, educational policy and educational practice" in Linz.
