task

The purpose of the non-profit association is to promote political education in the field of adult education in Austria .

The two main tasks of the ÖGPB are

  • the support of political education in adult education in Austria through educational offers, project advice and other further training measures,
  • the financial support of projects for political education within the framework of Austrian adult education in the member states.

history

The ÖGPB was founded in 1977 on the initiative of the Austrian Minister of Education Fred Sinowatz ( SPÖ ) and is the only state-initiated specialist organization for political education in Austria to date. It acted as the sponsoring association for the “Austrian Institute for Political Education (ÖIPB)”, which was founded in 1978 in Mattersburg, Burgenland . In 1991 the ÖIPB was closed, the ÖGPB repositioned itself and the office moved to Vienna . As part of the restructuring, the annual project funding was set up in the member states.

In 1993 the “Information Center Political Education” was formed within the ÖGPB, which was converted into the “Educational Offers and Project Consulting” division in 2006. Thus, the ÖGPB today comprises two business areas: "Educational offers and project advice" and "Project funding".

structure

Members of the ÖGPB are eight federal states , the federal government and the ten associations of the KEBÖ ( Conference of Adult Education in Austria ). The board consists of two representatives from the federal government, two from the member states and from KEBÖ. Gerhard Bisovsky (VÖV) is the current CEO.

The staff of the ÖGPB consists of seven employees, the managing director is Rahel Baumgartner and the scientific director Hakan Gürses.
