The 42nd season of the Austrian women's handball championship began on September 8, 2012 and ended with the second final game for the Austrian championship on May 15, 2013. The reigning champion is Hypo Niederösterreich .
In the top division, the WHA, 12 teams are represented. The championship is divided into two phases. In the main round, all teams play a simple round trip against each opponent. Then the first two teams play a final for the title.

At SG Witasek Kärnten, which was supposed to be built as a counterweight to Hypo Niederösterreich, the main sponsor left after the previous season, so the name was changed to HC Kelag Kärnten Damen. Since the squad could not be kept, the Carinthian club could no longer maintain the sporting level and was relegated.
