history

Foundation of the professional association

The stage technician - Vienna
Der Bühnentechniker (Vienna, 1911): Call for the establishment of an international association of stage technicians

As early as 1911 there was an appeal in the Viennese magazine “Der Bühnentechniker” to found an “International Association of Stage Technicians”. But it should take over 60 years before a professional association was founded. After the Federal Ministry of the Interior, as the association authority, took notice of the formation of the association "Austrian Theatertechnical Society" on the basis of the statutes presented on February 14, 1973, the constituent assembly took place on Thursday, April 12, 1973 in the Schreyvogel Hall of the Theater Studies Institutes, Vienna, Hofburg , Batthyanystiege. At the end of 1973 the general assembly was held, at which the final election of the board, the passing of resolutions on the statutes and a catalog of planned activities drawn up by the founding board took place.

aims

The OETHG sees itself as a non-profit professional association for all employees working in the stage and event sector as well as self-employed and specialist companies. The network extends to cooperation with all important event organizations such as the International Organization of Scenographers, Theater Technicians and Theater Architects (OISTAT), International Theater Institute (ITI), Professional Association for Professional Wireless Production Technology (APWT), German Theatertechnical Society ( DTHG ), Swiss Association of Technical Stages and event professions (SVPT) and the Association for Media and Event Technology e. V. (VPLT). In addition, the OETHG maintains and coordinates the connection to authorities, media and institutions.

The association is the Austrian center of OISTAT, the international organization of scenographers, theater technicians and theater architects.

further activities

Since 1989, OETHG has organized the MEET (trade fair for event and theater technology) every two years, a conference in which specialist lectures are combined with a large exhibition. The MEET is intended to be a framework for the presentation of the products of the member companies and an information opportunity for the members.

The OETHG is the publisher of the specialist magazine Prospect. This appears four times a year with an edition of 2,000 each and reports on trends, processes and implementations of event technology.

The measures of the OETHG in the field of education are bundled in the Academy of the OETHG. In order to optimize the organization of the training projects, the “Academy of the OETHG” was founded in 2005.
