The Austrian Council for Sustainable Development brings together representatives from science, business and civil society as well as political decision-makers in order to accelerate topics of the global Agenda 2030 . The Austrian Council for Sustainable Development is an independent non-governmental organization and an advisory body.

The Austrian Council for Sustainable Development deals integratively with social and economic development as well as environmental and climate protection and should therefore deal in particular with opportunities and added value as well as the risks of sustainability. At its core, it is about the potential of intergenerational and global justice to change society and promote prosperity within the load-bearing capacity limits set by nature. It promotes Austria as a business location and deals with the global transformation process.

The Austrian Council for Sustainable Development aims to identify challenges, fields of action and potential in the field of sustainable development in Austria. Together with partner organizations such as the UNGSII Foundation, it supports the implementation of the United Nations ' global sustainability goals "UN Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development Goals - SDGs". It initiates national and international projects and campaigns and serves as a driver and multiplier for sustainability initiatives, is an information and knowledge platform as well as a communication interface and mouthpiece for the topic of sustainability and SDGs. The Sustainability Council is both an actor and an advisory body.

He deals with the initiation, coordination and implementation of national "Made in Austria" and international projects on the subject of transformation, corporate responsibility, social development, climate protection, social and economic sustainability, global sustainability goals of the United Nations, surveys and studies as well as campaigns with partners and Experts.

High-profile projects and activities

The Austrian Council for Sustainable Development initiates and carries out national and international projects and campaigns with partners. The aim is the concretization, penetration and visualization of sustainability through projects in all areas of society. The focus is on projects that show complex, cross-departmental and future-oriented change. For the duration of a project, people with special technical expertise are also brought in.

Form of organization and office

The Austrian Council for Sustainable Development was founded on April 4, 2018 and entered in the register of associations on April 14, 2018. Financing is ensured through partnerships and memberships as well as donations and project funding (third-party funding).

Companies, organizations, public institutions, institutions, NGOs, associations, interest groups and individuals can join the association “Austrian Council for Sustainable Development” and actively participate in projects and working groups.

The General Secretariat implements the work program. It serves as the administrative and coordination point for all activities of the Council. The expert advisory board (so-called council members) and additional persons (so-called principal advisors) with special technical expertise are available for support.

The General Secretary is Markus Bürger , the Deputy General Secretary is Marina Luggauer .

Council members (expert advisory board)

The members of the Expert Advisory Board (so-called council members) act as an independent advisory body. The members of the expert advisory board work on a voluntary basis and are not necessarily members of the association. The expert advisory board consists of national and international personalities from business, environment, social affairs, science, the young generation, development cooperation, politics and society. These persons are appointed by the General Secretariat for a mandate of at least two years. Prominent "council members" are:
