The Austrian Institute for Vocational Training Research (ÖIBF) is a non-university academic institution based in Vienna .

history

The Austrian Institute for Vocational Training Research (öibf) was founded in 1970 by the Vocational Promotion Institute with the support of the Austrian Federation of Trade Unions , the Chamber of Labor (today the Federal Chamber of Labor ) and the public sector (ÖIBF 1980: 1). In the first two years the facility was called the “Institute for Vocational Research and Development”. The institute thus formed the first subject-specific institution for vocational training research in Austria. The founding president was the then Federal Minister for Science and Research Hertha Firnberg . The founding of the institute of the association, which still exists today, occurred at a time of social and educational policy awakening in Austria. In the course of the 1960s and 70s, the education system in Austria was extensively reformed: In 1962, the School Organization Act was passed, and in the same year the polytechnic course (now the Polytechnic School ) was introduced, which was designed as preparation for vocational training. At the beginning of the 1966/67 school year, compulsory schooling was extended to nine years, and in 1969 the Vocational Training Act came into force, which regulates vocational training in its dual form to this day.

Around 1,500 scientific research or development projects have been carried out since the institute began working.

Between 1978 and 1996 a quarterly trade journal "ÖIBF-Info" was published. From 1971 to the mid-1990s, the institute held annual scientific conferences on the subjects of vocational training and the labor market at the Federal Institute for Adult Education in St. Wolfgang on Lake Wolfgang or in Vienna . For the Austrian Conference for Vocational Training Research, which will be held from 2008, the öibf is co-organizer of this largest educational science conference in Austria, which takes place every two years in Steyr (Austria).

The institute has been based in the railway workers' home in Vienna Margareten since 2010 , which was built by the architect Hubert Gessner in collaboration with his brother Franz 1912–13.

Cooperations

Cooperations with national and international specialist organizations (such as the Federal Institute for Vocational Training , Federal University Institute for Vocational Training , European Center for the Promotion of Vocational Training ) have existed since the institute began working. The institute is also a member of the vocational training research working group abf-austria and the Austrian consortium for the ReferNet specialist and reference network of the EU agency CEDEFOP. The research and development work is often carried out in cooperation and transnational projects.
