The eastern banded snake ( Thamnophis sauritus ), also called eastern banded garter snake , is one of around 30 species of snake in the genus garter snake . A second species - Thamnophis proximus - is also called "band snake", but Western band snake .

features

Thamnophis sauritus climbs very well and was discovered in the branches a few meters above the ground. It mainly eats frogs , but also other amphibians and their larvae, as well as nudibranchs and fish .

The species reaches just over 100 cm in length. Males stay significantly smaller.

Like all Thamnophene, the Eastern Banded Snake is viviparous with three to 26 young per litter.

distribution

The eastern banded snake is primarily - hence its name - native to eastern North America ( New York to Florida ). It can only be found near bodies of water.
