The Swedish railway company Östra Värmland järnvägsaktiebolag (OWJ) was founded in 1873, (by older transport links Swedish Kommunikationsled ), which consisted of short rail lines and waterways on inland lakes and canals to replace and traffic conditions between Kristinehamn and the mining region around Filipstad in Värmland County to improve.

These were the main line Persberg – Kristinehamn and the branch line Nyhyttan – Finnshyttan, which were planned at the beginning of the 1870s. The concession to build the two lines was granted on May 9, 1873.

history

The individual route sections have been released for public transport as follows:

  • Kristinehamn – Storfors: June 3, 1873
  • Storfors – Gammalkroppa: December 11, 1875
  • After the provisional clearance of the Gammalkroppa – Nyhyttan – Filipstads Ö line for freight traffic on February 1, 1876, the remaining sections of Filipstads Ö – Finnshyttan on April 3, 1876 and Gammalkroppa – Persbergs gruva on December 1, 1876 were handed over to their destination. In Finshyttan, the Flipstad Norra Bergslags Järnväg narrow-gauge railway connected .

In the first few years there was also a two-kilometer private, non-licensed connecting railway between Elfbroväxeln and Elfbrohyttan lastplats.

Integration of former societies

For railway construction, the company acquired the narrow-gauge railway lines Christinehamn-Sjöändan (1,099 mm), the nine-kilometer, between Bernsnäs brygga on Östersjön and Gammalkroppa on Yngen running range of Kroppa Jernvägs- och Sjö-transports-Actie-Bolag (802 mm) and the Yngs – Daglöse Järnväg (692 mm) from Vinternäset am Yngen to Aborrbergets krön and on to the port in Filipstad .

The company used the old station building on the Christinehamn – Sjöändan railway in Kristinehamn. Bergslagernas Järnvägar was crossed in Herhult . The route ended in Persbergs gruva.

Expansion and sale

Mora Vänerns järnvägsaktiebolag (MVJ) applied for a concession to expand the line between Persberg and Mora , which it was awarded in 1887. When this line was built, Persberg station was moved to the west.

In the years from 1889 to 1897, Mora Vänerns järnvägsaktiebolag rented the line from the ÖWJ until it was owned by MVJ on January 1, 1897 for a price of 4.5 million kroner.

MVJ, in turn, was acquired by the Swedish state in 1917 , which handed over the routes to Statens Järnvägar . At this point in time the inland railway was planned and the line became part of the southern section. The line between Kristinehamn and Nykroppa still exists and is now part of the inland railway. The Herrhult – Persberg and Nyhyttan – Finshyttan sections were replaced by another route and dismantled.
