Øyonn Groven Myhren (born August 8, 1969 ) is a Norwegian folk musician ( flute and lyre ), singer and poet in the style of the skalds .

Career

Myhren received her musical training at the Ole Bull Academy in Voss, among others . Through her mother Dagne Groven Myhren and other people, she was shaped by the rich tradition of telemark . Myhren received a scholarship for singing lessons at the Landskappleiken competition in 1997 and 1998 . She also composes her own sheet music and creates her arrangements.

Myhren often went on tours, for example with the medieval group Aurora Borealis , with whom she released the album Harpa in 1997 . She had a central role in 1996 on the album Visor og kvæde frå Blåberglandet by the vocal group Dvergmål. She was also in 1998 at Christmas album I jolo with the minstrel Alf Tveit and the organist involved Eilert Hægeland.

Together with Odd Nordstoga , Myhren had great success in 2001 with the commissioned work Nivelkinn for the Telemark Festival . The album of the same name received the renowned Spellemann prizes in the folk music category in 2002. As a result, Nordstoga was named “Spielmann of the Year” in 2004. Myhren released the solo album Akkedoria frå Christiania in 2003 . In autumn 2005 she played a central role in the folk music opera Tryllefløyta .

In 2017 she recorded the album Så vide fara dei Lindarord with Anne Hytta in the duo SogeSong . It was nominated for the Spellemann Prize 2017.

family

Her father was the philologist Magne Myhren (1937-2015). The mother Dagne Groven Myhren (* 1940) is a university professor, literary scholar and daughter of the composer Eivind Groven (1901–1977). Her brother Eilev Groven Myhren (* 1973) is a translator and choir director.
