Translation House Looren
The Looren Translation House in Wernetshausen near Zurich ( Switzerland ) offers professional literary translators from all over the world the opportunity to work for several weeks. Here you can concentrate on your own translation project and maintain professional exchange with other guests. It is the only institution of its kind in Switzerland.
House
The translation company was founded in 2005. It is run by the association of the same name as a non-profit organization and three-quarters of it is financed from private funds. The house has ten guest rooms with their own bathroom, shared kitchen, living room, library and garden.
activities
The translation company supports further training and networking for translators through workshops and conferences. With public readings and discussions, it also gives a broad audience an insight into the profession of literary translation. Many of the events are carried out in cooperation with partner institutions in the Zurich region, throughout Switzerland and with international cooperation partners.
Translation House Looren is a member of the RECIT network , the network of European translation centers.
Library
A specialist library tailored to the needs of translators and accessible via an online catalog, currently comprising around 8000 titles, is being maintained and expanded.
Award
In 2012, the translation company received the Max Geilinger Foundation Prize . The foundation honors people and institutions for their services to cultural exchange between Switzerland and the Anglo-Saxon region.
