from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Max Geilinger Foundation was established in Zurich in 1962 to promote and disseminate the works of the Zurich poet and playwright Max Geilinger (1884–1948).

Story and purpose

The English-born Frances Dalton ordered the establishment of the foundation in her will to promote the memory of her husband Max Geilinger and to spread his literary work . The purpose of the foundation is to support literary and cultural relations between Switzerland and the Anglo-Saxon region. The highlight of the foundation's activities is the awarding of the renowned Max Geilinger Prize in the amount of CHF 25,000, which takes place every two to three years. Other events and publications that correspond to the purpose of the foundation are also supported. The Geilinger scholarship fund for translations and the scholarship for the Max Geilinger Junior Fellowship at the German Department of the Queen Mary College of the University of London for young Swiss scholars in German and English studies are supported. A depiction of the life and work of Max Geilinger was published in 1967 by Alfred A. Häsler on behalf of the foundation.
