Ünyespor is a Turkish football club from the Ünye district in the Ordu province . The Green-Whites play their home games in the Ünye İlçe Stadium . The club played for six seasons in the second highest Turkish league, the TFF 1st Lig .

history

founding

The association was founded in 1957 under the name Ünye Gençlerbirliği . In the summer of 1985 the club was renamed to its current name Ünye Spor Kulübü (Ünyespor for short).

Systemic relegation to the TFF 3rd Lig

Since Turkish professional football was to undergo fundamental changes in the 2001/02 season, preparations for this change were made in the 2000/01 season. So far, professional football in Turkey has consisted of three leagues: the top division, the single-lane Türkiye 1. Futbol Ligi , the second-rate five-lane and two-stage Türkiye 2. Futbol Ligi and the third-rate, eight -lane Türkiye 3. Futbol Ligi . For the 2001/02 season, professional football was expanded to four professional leagues. While the Türkiye 1. Futbol Ligi remained unchanged, the Türkiye 2. Futbol Ligi was now in the second highest division, the Türkiye 2. Futbol Ligi Aategorisi (to German: 2. Football League Category A of Turkey ), and the third highest division , the Türkiye 2. Futbol Ligi Bategorisi (to German: 2. Football League Category B of Turkey ), divided. The subordinate Türkiye 3rd Futbol Ligi was henceforth the fourth highest division, the TFF 3rd Lig . Those teams, which only occupied a middle place in the table in the third division 2000/01 season , were assigned to the newly created fourth-highest Turkish division, the 3rd league, for the coming season. Ünyespor, which had finished the league in 11th place in the table, had to relegate to the 3rd Lig due to the system.

Modern times

In the 2010/11 season they finished the TFF 3rd Lig as champions and have since played again in the third highest Turkish league, the TFF 2nd Lig .

The club went into the 2013-14 season with great financial difficulties. The situation worsened towards the end of the season, so the players drove to the away games in their own cars with the money they had collected. Finally, the club could not make the journey for the away game against Düzyurtspor on matchday 32 . The Turkish Football Association rated the game with a 3-0 defeat in accordance with its regulations and deducted an additional three points from the club. The club also did not play the next away encounter on the 34th matchday against Çıksalınspor. This was the second time the club missed a league game this season. The regulations came into force, according to which teams that did not play two games within a season for no reason had to be automatically relegated. Contrary to the usual practice of evaluating all remaining games of the club concerned with a 0-3 defeat, this game was rated as not having taken place.
