The vehicles in the ČD series 844 are low-floor diesel multiple units for regional transport operated by the Czech railway company České dráhy (ČD). They correspond to type LINK II from the Polish manufacturer PESA . The ČD market them as "RegioShark".
history
The Czech railway company České dráhy (ČD) ordered a total of 31 LINK IIs on March 17, 2011 for CZK 1.99 billion (approx. € 79.6 million). 40 percent of the purchase price is financed through a regional funding program of the European Union. The delivery of the vehicles between September 2012 and January 2014 was contractually agreed.
The vehicles were originally intended to be used on the following lines:
- Karlovy Vary – Chomutov (with Ústecký kraj )
- Mariánské Lázně– Cheb – Karlovy Vary
- Cheb – Luby u Chebu
- Liberec – Česká Lípa – Děčín (with Ústecký kraj)
- Plzeň – Domažlice město
- Plzeň – Cheb (with Karlovarský kraj)
- Kojetín – Kroměříž – Hulín – Valašské Meziříčí (with Olomoucký kraj )
- Zlín – Uherské Hradiště
- Zlín – Kroměříž
The prototype 844 001 was transferred from the manufacturer PESA to the Velim railway test ring on May 10, 2012 . Test drives took place there in the weeks that followed. On June 27, 2012, the manufacturer and ČD presented the vehicle to the public. In 2013 the approval runs were completed and approval for the Czech rail network was granted. By the end of 2012, the first nine series vehicles had been delivered to ČD and put into operation.
The use of the vehicles has so far been concentrated on lines in North and West Bohemia and in Zlínský kraj, as originally planned. Since the vehicles have not been approved for operation in Germany, they are not allowed to run on the U28 cross-border line between Děčín, Bad Schandau and Rumburk.

technical features
The vehicles consist of two largely identical halves that are connected by a non-powered Jakobs bogie . The two outer bogies are driven. The power transmission from the two diesel engines under the high-floor compartment takes place by means of a hydromechanical gearbox on both axles of the motor bogies.
The passenger compartment between the bogies has a low-floor design so that barrier-free access is guaranteed on platforms 550 millimeters above the top of the rails. The passenger compartment is air-conditioned. The vehicles are given the current ČD corporate design (“Najbrt design”) inside and out .
