The ČSD class E 669.3 (from 1988: class 183 ) is a six-axle electric freight locomotive of the former Czechoslovak State Railways ČSD for the 3 kV direct current system in today's Slovakia . It was created as a replica of the E 669.2 delivered in 1965 .

development

After the E 669.2 was delivered in 1963–1965 , there was still a need for this six-axle locomotive for heavy freight train service in what is now Slovakia . Therefore, in 1971, 43 locomotives of the aforementioned E 669.3 were developed and delivered to the Czechoslovak State Railways ČSD.

The locomotives had the same area of application and the same technical parameters as the previous series.

technical features

The locomotives are box locomotives with driver's cabs at both ends and a centrally closed engine room in between. The body of the locomotives is welded with steel plates and has only minor visual changes compared to the ČSD series E 669.2 .

The locomotive body is the same as that of the previous design, with the exception of small details (e.g. the shape of the air slots in the sloping roof is different). The only noticeable difference is that only one of the six side windows can be opened. There are also some slight visual differences in the lower area of the locomotive frame. Otherwise they also correspond to the previous design.

The electrical equipment corresponds to E 669.2 .

commitment

The locomotives had the same area of application as the previous series. They were only taken over by the ZSSK and impressed from the start with their enormous pulling power and their quiet track position in front of heavy trains.

For the most part, their services have now been taken over by modern four-axle locomotives due to the decline in freight traffic. In contrast to the E 669.2 , the locomotives of the E 669.3 are still in use at the ZSSK .
