The ČSD series S 458.0 (from 1988 series 210 ) is an electric shunting locomotive for the route network of the former Czechoslovak state railway ČSD, which is electrified with 25 kV at 50 Hz . It was developed at the same time as the E 458.0 in order to carry out the shunting and the transport of transfer trips at larger passenger and freight stations.

The mechanical part is identical to that of the E 458.0 , only the electrical structure of the locomotive has a transformer and a different control system. A separate discharge hill control with additional pantographs, as was necessary with the E 458.0 , is not required for the locomotive. Nevertheless, a minimum speed of up to 5 km / h is possible. The locomotives are equipped with a special heating transformer to provide train busbar voltages of 1.5 kV or 3 kV at 50 Hz and can therefore also be used in passenger train services. The gear ratio between the drive motor pinion and the large wheel is 1: 4.06, which enables the locomotive to reach a top speed of 80 km / h.

From 1972 to January 1973, the prototype locomotive S 458.0001 was manufactured. In 1973 the first 30 series locomotives up to the S 458.0031 were delivered. The remaining locomotives up to the S 458.0074 were manufactured in two further series (1979 and 1983) . The locomotives were based on the Czech side in Plzeň , Cheb and České Budějovice and hauled passenger trains on the Veselí nad Lužnicí – Jihlava and Trnava – Kúty lines , among other things ; on the Slovak side they are located in Bratislava , Zvolen and Leopoldov .

In 1988 the locomotives were re-designated as the 210 series. In 1990, the electrical equipment of the model locomotive 210 001 was reconstructed, which resulted in a renaming to the class 209 . The locomotive has already been taken out of service.

With 210,028 were batteries built to operate on non-electrified track parts and by a Caterpillar - diesel engine and an AC - synchronous generator replaced by Siemens. This two-power locomotive has been known as 218 028 ever since . No other locomotives were converted.

Most of the vehicles are still in use today at ČD and ZSSK Cargo .
