The ČSD series S 499.2 was an electric locomotive series for universal traffic of the former Czechoslovak state railway ČSD for the route network in the south and west of the former Czechoslovakia electrified with 25 kV 50 Hz alternating current . It was developed from the ČSD series ES 499.1 and was designed for operation as a universal locomotive from Škoda in Plzeň of the 2nd generation.
history
First two prototypes of the class S 499.2 locomotive were built in 1984, each costing 7,300,000 Czechoslovak crowns . The machines are a further development of the ES 499.1 with the omission of the direct current component. The series was created in 1988, but the locomotives were given the new designation 263 . There were no further deliveries due to the decline in rail traffic after 1990. Neither further modifications nor the planned 262 series with a changed gear ratio were implemented.
For a few years now, the ZSSK has been using its locomotives, which have been equipped with push-pull control, mainly on local trains in the Bratislava area.
technical features
The structure of the locomotive corresponds to the construction principles of Škoda of the 2nd generation. It has the same structure as the ES 499.1, E 499.3 locomotives and the DR class 230 . The locomotive body is exactly that of the 230. It is corrugated and has blinds that can be opened on one side and four windows on the other side, the inner ones of which can be opened. These are the only mechanical differences to the ES 499.1. Otherwise, the locomotive is derived exactly from the model - with a self-supporting box and double-spring chassis, in which the traction motors with a hollow shaft drive according to the Škoda system drive the axles, which are mounted in vertical bolts and sprung with steel coil springs. The locomotive is equipped with a handbrake, an indirect train brake and a direct-acting locomotive brake.
The locomotive gets its energy from two single-arm pantographs . The series locomotives have a different shape than the prototypes. The power is transmitted through the secondary windings of the traction transformer type EL 5979-51, which is suspended under the locomotive body between the chassis. Each traction motor is fed by a pulsating changing device via an oil-cooled thyristor . The traction is controlled in the same direction. The cooling of the electrical equipment was taken over as regulation according to the load of the series ES 499.1 and E 499.3, which led to a not insignificant energy saving. The locomotive can be controlled according to two regimes, according to adjustable tractive effort or according to constant speed. The latter is regulated by the ARR automatic speed control .
commitment
The two prototypes S 499.2001 and S 499.2002 were assigned to DKV Brno and mainly provide passenger train services. The series locomotives are owned by the ŽSR , they are based in Bratislava and usually serve the route Bratislava - Břeclav .
