The Ōme Railway Park ( Japanese 青梅 鉄 道 公園 , Ōme tetsudō kōen ; English Ōme Railway Park ) is a railway museum in Japan . It has been located in the city of Ōme in the west of Tokyo Prefecture since 1962 and is supported by the East Japan Railway Culture Foundation , the cultural foundation of the JR East railway company .

description

The Japanese State Railways opened the railway park on October 18, 1962 on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of rail transport in Japan . Ten historic rail vehicles are on display, and there is also a miniature train for children. Next to it is a museum building with model railways , changing exhibitions and a souvenir shop. For the first three and a half decades, the vehicles were parked outdoors and were exposed to the elements, which made their condition worse. Extensive repairs were therefore carried out in 1997 and since 2007 all vehicles with one exception have been protected by a shelter.

The museum is open every day from Tuesday to Sunday. It is located in a park-like area around half a kilometer northeast of Ōme station .

Exhibits

On the grounds of Ōme Railroad Park currently (2020) eight are steam engines , one electric locomotive and a Shinkansen - motor coach on permanent display.
