Şakir Bilgin

Şakir Bilgin (* 1951 in Bolu , Turkey ) is a Turkish author living in Germany.

After his training, Bilgin taught at a Turkish elementary school until 1973, then he studied sport at the Istanbul Pedagogical University. In 1976 he came to the Federal Republic of Germany and continued his sports studies at the German Sport University in Cologne . From 1978 until 2003 he worked as a Turkish and sports teacher at various schools in Cologne.

On January 12, 1983, Şakir Bilgin was arrested while on vacation in Turkey and brought before a military court on charges of being a member of the Dev-Sol organization, which is banned in Turkey . It was not until February 27, 1986 that he was released from prison, and in the summer of 1987 he returned to the Federal Republic of Germany with his family.

Bilgin is the author of several books. His book Every day the sun weeps gives an impressive account of the time of his imprisonment, torture, psychological terror, but also the camaraderie among the prisoners . In the last two books in Turkish, Şakir Bilgin tells of a Turkish girl who was born and raised in Cologne. Under the title I am called Meryem, not Miriam , these two books were published in one volume in German by the Internationale Kulturwerk in Hildesheim .
