Şefik Alp Bahadır

Şefik Alp Bahadır (born May 22, 1946 in Çorum , Turkey) is a Turkish economist in Germany, who teaches as a professor for contemporary oriental research at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg .

Life

After graduating from high school in Berlin in 1966, Şefik Alp Bahadır studied economics and political science at the Free University of Berlin on a scholarship from the Friedrich Ebert Foundation . He finished his studies with three degrees: Diplom-Volkswirt (1971), Diplom-Betriebswirt (1973) and Diplom-Politologe (1975). In 1977 he was awarded a Dr. rer. pole. PhD. In 1982 he completed his habilitation in economics with a grant from the German Research Foundation and became a private lecturer in the economics department of the Free University of Berlin. From 1981 he worked as a lecturer at the London School of Economics and Political Science until he was appointed to the newly established professorship for contemporary orient research at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg in 1984.

The chemist Ali Müfit Bahadır is his brother.

Before the constitutional referendum in Turkey on April 16, 2017 , Bahadır spoke out in favor of a constitutional amendment:

“Turkey (is) characterized by strong ethnic contradictions as well as ideological, religious and cultural differences. With such large differences, the consensus-based parliamentary system does not work in Turkey. The parties will not agree on a single point. There is a deep division in Turkey that affects all areas of society. "
