The Eschacher Weiher is a pond created by the Prince Abbey of Kempten in the Adelegg ridge in the municipality of Buchenberg in the Swabian district of Oberallgäu , Bavaria (Germany).

Geographical location

The Eschacher Weiher reservoir is located in the southeastern foothills of the Buchenberg Forest , which connects to the Adelegg to the northeast and east . It is located 3.5 kilometers (km) west of the center of Buchenberg and 1.3 km (as the crow flies ) southwest of its small district of Eschach . On the eastern slopes of the Hohenkapf ( 1121.1  m above sea  level ) it was dammed up by a small dam wall to form a water reservoir at a height of 999  m .

history

The Eschacher Weiher, which was laid out in 1677 (partly also dated 1693), initially served the Kempten abbot Rupert von Bodman as a mill and fire water pond , but also as a fish pond for the court kitchen. It was placed under landscape protection in 1982 , so that water sports are prohibited, but bathing is permitted in certain beach areas. There is a bathing area for nudists .

The Eschacher Weiher is located on the Rhine-Danube watershed because its water flows into the river system of the Danube and that of the Rhine via two drains :

The Eschacher Weiher is home to carp and other non-coarse fish , as well as rainbow trout , brown trout , perch and occasional arctic char .
