Silo Bridge

The Šilo Bridge ( lit.Silo tiltas ) is a four-lane road bridge over the Neris and connects the districts of Antakalnis and Žirmūnai of the Lithuanian capital Vilnius . To the east it borders on the campus of the College for Technologies and Design Vilnius .

history

The first bridge (known as Antakalnis Bridge) was built here in the interwar period during the Polish occupation to transport ammunition to narrow bunkers on Šilo Street. It was also used as a pedestrian bridge , but civilians were not allowed to use it during World War II . On July 8, 1944, the bridge was blown up by German troops as they withdrew from Vilnius. The new bridge was built in 1999 by UAB Tilsta.
