Šimon Partlic ze Špicberga (German Simon Partlitz von Spitzberg ; * 1590 in Třešť ; † around 1640 probably in Trenčín ) was a Czech mathematician , astronomer and doctor .

biography

Partlic was a serf of Hertwig Zedlitz von Schönfeld. He studied at the University of Prague , where he attended, among others, lectures of Professor Martinus Bachaczii (Martin Bacháček for Nauměřic), 1612 obtained the degree of Bachelor of Arts and was in 1614 for Master of arts faculty doctorate. In 1621 he received a doctorate in medicine from the University of Basel.

He then taught at various schools in Bohemia, in 1619 with the Lords of Schönburg in Germany and was educator at the court of the Bohemian King Friedrich of the Palatinate during the Bohemian uprising . In addition, he repeatedly devoted himself to astronomy . After the suppression of the uprising, he had to emigrate because of his Protestant belief. In 1625 he converted to Catholicism and returned to Bohemia.

Works

Šimon Partlic ze Špicberga made some astrological-astronomical writings and calendars and dealt with the observation and description of comets (Comet 1618 I (also Keppler Comet) and 1618 II ). He is also considered the successor to Gerolamo Cardano , who included comets in horoscopes .
