The Žampašský viaduct ( Žampacher Viadukt ) is a railway bridge on the Čerčany – Vrané nad Vltavou railway line in the Czech Republic . It is considered to be one of the tallest single-story stone arch bridges in Central Europe. The location in the curved track with a radius of only 180 meters is remarkable . This makes the Žampašský viaduct one of the few large masonry bridges that lie in an arch and have a slope towards it.
history
The construction of the viaduct began in 1898. Around 200 Italians were employed on the construction site who had already gained experience in building the Alpine railways.
The granodiorite stone used came from the quarries in Borek and Kamenný Přívoz . They were transported to the construction site on a field railway and a double-track inclined elevator. A total of 5,780 m³ broken stones, 600 m³ cuboids, 450 m³ vaulted stones and 56 brackets were bricked up. For the construction of the falsework, 488 m³ of round timber and 750 m³ of posts were used.
On May 1, 1900, the railway line over the bridge was opened.
