The Čerčany – Vrané nad Vltavou railway is a regional railway connection in the Czech Republic that was originally built and operated as part of the state-guaranteed local railway Čerčan – Modřan – Dobříš . It runs from Čerčany about Jílové u Prahy ( Owl ) and Davle to Vrané nad Vltavou ( Wran ) where they at the branch ( "Odbočka") Skochovice in the railway Dobříš-Praha-Modřany opens. Colloquially, the route is known today as Posázavský Pacifik .

According to a decree of the Czech government, the line has been classified as a regional railway ("regionální dráha") since December 20, 1995.

The concession for the " local railway from Modřan to Čerčan with a branch from Měchenitz to Dobříš " was granted on May 26, 1897. The concessionaires were obliged to start construction of the lines immediately and to finish them within two and a half years. The duration of the concession was set at 90 years.

As the first section, the Čerčan – Krhanitz line was provisionally opened for freight traffic on January 18, 1897. From June 26, 1897, there was also tourist traffic. The further route to Eule went into operation for all traffic on September 22, 1897. The operation was carried out by the kk Staatsbahnen (kkStB) on behalf of the owners.

However, the completion of the rest of the route was delayed. On September 22, 1897, the Ministry of Commerce announced that the construction completion date was changed to December 31, 1899. The Eule – Wran section was finally opened on May 1, 1900.

In 1912, the local railroad's timetable indicated three pairs of 2nd and 3rd class trains over the entire route, with further sections served. Some of the trains were tied to and from Prague via Wran. Some trains were run as motorized trains.

After the collapse of Austria-Hungary in October 1918, management was transferred to the newly founded Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD). On January 1, 1925, the Čerčan – Modřan – Dobříš local railway was nationalized and the line was integrated into the ČSD network. From then on it was administered by the State Railway Directorate (Ředitelství státních drah) in Prague.

The commissioning of modern motor trains by ČSD enabled a significant consolidation of the timetable in the mid-1930s. Trains ran about every two hours on weekdays, and about every hour on Sundays in the summer half-year.

During the Second World War , the route lay entirely in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia . The operators were now the Protectorate Railways Bohemia and Moravia (ČMD-BMB). Due to the war, there was now a reduction in train journeys. On May 9, 1945, the entire line came back to the ČSD.

On January 1, 1993, the line was transferred to the newly founded České dráhy (ČD) in the course of the dissolution of Czechoslovakia . Since 2003 it has been part of the network of the state infrastructure operator Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC).

In the 2019 annual timetable, the route will be served by passenger trains on line S8 (Čerčany – Praha hl. N.) At approximately hourly intervals. On weekdays, this schedule is partially condensed to an hourly cycle.

In 2013, 23 level crossings are to be modernized on the line. The travel time between Čerčany and Prague should be reduced by around 17 minutes after the work is completed. The measures are part of an investment program worth 1.93 billion crowns, with which more than 400 level crossings are to be renewed across the country.

Vehicle use

The kkStB used class 97 locomotives on the route , which were financed by the local railway company. The motor vehicle used in 1912 was probably the 1.401 that had been procured in 1908 for the Swětla – Ledeč – Kácow local railway .

Today the passenger train traffic is handled with the railcars of the ČD series 810 and their modernized version ČD series 814 . At times when the number of passengers is high, passenger trains hauled by locomotives are also used. They mostly consist of a diesel locomotive of the ČD series 749 and Görlitz double-decker cars . In the past, ČD class 714 locomotives were also seen in front of class 010 sidecars .
