The Kolín – Čerčany railway is a regional railway connection in the Czech Republic , which was originally built and operated as part of the state-guaranteed local railway Kolin – Čerčan – Kácow . It runs from Kolín via Uhlířské Janovice ( Kohljanowitz ) and Sázava ( Sazau ) to Čerčany .

According to a decree of the Czech government, the line has been classified as a regional railway ("regionální dráha") since December 20, 1995.

history

The concession for the " local railway from Kolin via Bečvar, Kohljanowitz and Rattay to Čerčan with a branch from Rattay to Kácov " was granted on May 10, 1899 to Count Sternberg . The concessionaire was obliged to start construction of the lines immediately and to finish them within two years. The duration of the concession was set at 90 years.

Uhlířské Janovice station (2009)

The first section was opened on December 15, 1900, the line from Kolín to Rattay. The rest of the route to Čerčan (including the branch line to Kácov) followed on August 6, 1901. The operation was carried out by the kk State Railways (kkStB) on behalf of the owners.

In 1912 the timetable of the local railway indicated three mixed pairs of 2nd and 3rd class trains over the entire route. They needed over three hours for the 77-kilometer route.

After the collapse of Austria-Hungary in October 1918, management was transferred to the newly founded Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD). On January 1, 1925, the local railway Kolin – Čerčan – Kácow was nationalized and the line was integrated into the ČSD network. From then on it was administered by the State Railway Directorate (Ředitelství státních drah) in Prague.

The commissioning of modern motor trains by the ČSD enabled a significant consolidation of the timetable at the end of the 1920s. From then on, the route was included in the timetable as the Kolín – Ledečko line. The remaining route was assigned to the Světlá nad Sázavou – Čerčany line. The winter timetable of 1937/38 recorded seven pairs of 2nd and 3rd class passenger trains between Kolín and Ledečko, of which only one was connected to Čerčany. In Ledečko there was a connection to Čerčany.

Samechov Railway Station (2010)

During the Second World War , the route lay entirely in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia . The operators were now the Protectorate Railways Bohemia and Moravia (ČMD-BMB). Due to the war, there was now a reduction in train journeys. On May 9, 1945, the entire line came back to the ČSD.

On January 1, 1993, the line was transferred to the newly founded České dráhy (ČD) in the course of the dissolution of Czechoslovakia . Since 2003 it has been part of the network of the state infrastructure operator Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC).

In 2013, the schedule section is in an approximate two-hour intervals served by the passenger trains the relation Kolín-Ledečko. On weekdays, this schedule is partially condensed to an hourly cycle. There are trips between Ledečko and Čerčany approximately every hour, with most trains going to and from Světlá nad Sázavou.

Vehicle use

The kkStB used class 97 locomotives on the route , which were financed by the local railway company. The 1.401 steam railcar was an outsider in the vehicle fleet .

Today the passenger train traffic is handled with the railcars of the ČD series 810 and their modernized version ČD series 814 . Locomotive-hauled passenger trains are also used for excursion traffic on Sundays. They mostly consist of a diesel locomotive of the ČD series 749 and Görlitz double-decker cars .
