The Ledečko – Kácov railway is a regional railway connection in the Czech Republic that was originally built and operated as part of the state-guaranteed local railway Kolin – Čerčan – Kácow . It branches off at Ledečko at the junction ("odbočka") Rataje nad Sázavou from the Kolín – Čerčany railway line and leads via Český Šternberk ( Sternberg ) to Kácov .

According to a decree of the Czech government, the line has been classified as a regional railway ("regionální dráha") since December 20, 1995.

The concession for the " local railway from Kolin via Bečvar, Kohljanowitz and Rattay to Čerčan with a branch from Rattay to Kácov " was granted on May 10, 1899 to Count Sternberg . The concessionaire was obliged to start construction of the lines immediately and to finish them within two years. The duration of the concession was set at 90 years.

On August 6, 1901, the line was opened together with the Rattay – Čerčan section of the main Kolin – Čerčan line. The operation was carried out by the kk Staatsbahnen (kkStB) on behalf of the owners.

In 1912, the local railway timetable showed four mixed pairs of 2nd and 3rd class trains, two of which were connected to and from Swetla. They needed 44–47 minutes for the 17 km Ledečko-Kácow route.

After the collapse of Austria-Hungary in October 1918, management was transferred to the newly founded Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD). On January 1, 1925, the local railway Kolin – Čerčan – Kácow was nationalized and the line was integrated into the ČSD network. From then on it was administered by the State Railway Directorate (Ředitelství státních drah) in Prague.

The commissioning of modern motor trains by the ČSD enabled a significant consolidation of the timetable at the end of the 1920s. From then on, the route was included in the timetable as the Čerčany – Světlá nad Sázavou line. The winter timetable of 1937/38 recorded up to seven pairs of 2nd and 3rd class passenger trains, three of which were motor trains on weekdays. On Sundays there was a continuous connection to and from Prague, which was used for excursions.

During the Second World War , the route lay entirely in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia . The operators were now the Protectorate Railways Bohemia and Moravia (ČMD-BMB). Due to the war, there was now a reduction in train journeys. On May 9, 1945, the entire line came back to the ČSD.

On January 1, 1993, the line was transferred to the newly founded České dráhy (ČD) in the course of the dissolution of Czechoslovakia . Since 2003 it has been part of the network of the state infrastructure operator Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC).

In the 2013 annual timetable, the route will be served by passenger trains on the Čerčany – Světlá nad Sázavou route at approximately two-hour intervals. On weekdays, this schedule is partially condensed to an hourly cycle.

Vehicle use

The kkStB used class 97 locomotives on the route , which were financed by the local railway company. The 1.401 steam railcar was an outsider in the vehicle fleet .

Today the passenger train traffic is handled with the railcars of the ČD series 810 and their modernized version ČD series 814 . Locomotive-hauled passenger trains are also used for excursion traffic on Sundays. They mostly consist of a diesel locomotive of the ČD series 749 and Görlitz double-decker cars .
