Local chapel Unterthürnau

The Roman Catholic St. Magdalena local chapel in the Lower Austrian town of Unterthürnau was first mentioned in a document from the 14th century as a beneficiary foundation , which existed until 1790. Afterwards the pastoral care was transferred to the parish Drosendorf. The chapel is a listed building .

Exterior

The west tower, which is Gothic in essence, dates from the 16th century, the baroque nave with Gothic choir from the beginning of the 15th century. Arched windows can be seen on the nave ; on the south side remains of a beveled Gothic portal garment as well as a 17th century structure scratched into the plaster. The low, recessed , one - bay choir with five - eighth end has buttresses and lancet windows with three-pass tracery . A baroque sacristy is built to the north . The tower, which tapers towards the top, has notches , arched windows, clock gables and a tiled pyramid helmet .

Interior

The originally flat-roofed interior was given a needle cap barrel in the 17th century with belt arches resting on wide pilasters . The west gallery is decorated with paintings from the first half of the 18th century, including depictions of Jesus Christ , Johannes Nepomuk , Mary with Child , Veronica and other saints. The nave is opened to the choir through a pointed triumphal arch . This has a ribbed vault with a keystone from the beginning of the 15th century. The partially fragmented wall paintings in the choir were created from the end of the 17th century. The cartilage altar was designed in the form of an aedicle and bears an image of the resurrection from around 1670.
